A new earning opportunity came to a housewife in Sorsogon City during the implementation of Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Luzon due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the country.

Veronica Banta of Barangay Balogo in Sorsogon City saw a video on Youtube about garden pot making from used clothes and cement.

Banta saw the video when she was stranded in Donsol town, about 80 kilometers from her hometown after community quarantine lockdowns were implemented in Luzon in March this year.

She did not know that the video would give her an earning opportunity amid the Covid-19 crisis.

In June 2020, Banta immediately started to create the garden pots she learned from Youtube when she was able to go back to Barangay Balogo.

She initially used 5 kilos of cement and some pieces of old clothes. People started to notice when they posted the finished products on Facebook.

“When the orders came from Facebook, I knew we would make additional income,” Banta said.

Banta’s colorful homemade garden pots range from P25.00 to P100.00 each.

Banta is setting up a store along Alegre Street, Purok 3, Barangay Balogo, Sorsogon City where her products will be displayed.

Banta said she was happy and thankful because she realized that willingness to learn and using that knowledge can give you an earning opportunity during the Covid-19 crisis. (Source: Marlon Atun, PIA Sorsogon)
