True to his name, retired Army soldier, 2Lt. Honest Tosoc brought to the police a bag containing PHP107,000 that the owner left inside his store.
Tosoc told the Philippine News Agency that he found the bag left in his store in Barangay Pag-asa in Dumalinao town.
“At first I was hesitant after seeing the bag. Being a former military man, I checked it carefully and later assumed that it was left by students and left it,” Tosoc said.
“The following morning, I again saw it and decided to open the bag and was surprised seeing its contents,” Tosoc said.
“Isauli ito dapat dahil pinaghirapan ito ng may-ari (It should be returned since it was hard-earned money),” Tosoc said.
Police returned the cash-filled bag after locating the owner, Diosdado Perater, 76, on October 21, 2019.
Perater, a resident of Barangay Sebucao, Dumalinao, said he forgot where he left the bag and thanked Tosoc.
Perater said the money was the proceeds in the sale of his piece of land in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.
Police Lieutenant Ricky Bulitic, Dumalinao deputy chief of police, commended Tosoc for his good deed.
Maj. Gen. Roberto Ancan, Army’s 1st Infantry Division Commander, also praised Tosoc for his honesty.
“Even though he already retired, he brought with him integrity and professionalism, the attitude and virtues he possessed from the service,” Ancan said. (Leah Agonoy, PNA)
